Yet another adorable decoration for your baby shower. Takes a bit of effort (not much) but is well worth it.

Cut a watermelon lengthwise till the cut runs about one third of the way from the top. In terms of length, the cut should be about 75% of the melon's length. Next, make a second cut that's at right angles to your first cut. You'll end up with a section of the watermelon; remove this section. Doesn't the remaining portion look like a baby's cradle? Can you see the possibilities for decorating baby showers?

To make it more like a cradle, hollow out the melon cutting chunks of juicy flesh out of it. Use other fruits as well and make fruit salad. Fill the 'cradle' with salad. Now that's a baby shower decoration that tastes as wonderful as it looks!

You can use tulle in many imaginative ways at baby showers and other celebrations.

Here's another baby shower decoration idea. Bunch up the tulle up approximately every five or six feet. Get hold of twinkle Christmas lights and wrap the lights around the tulle. Hang the tulle around the room like a swag valence.

To give the baby shower touch, suspend small infant items from the tulle - feeding bottles, booties, small plush toys, bibs etc. Tie cute bows as well.

The lighting produces a lovely effect - this is a great decoration idea for baby showers.

Tulle is an inexpensive item with which you can make lovely decorations at baby showers.

Pick up tulle at a clearance sale or fabric store. Get hold of those cute, white Christmas lights. Run the lights through the tulle. Next, bunch up the tulle on a table. It should look like a small, white, soft mountain. The lights diffusing through it makes it look even better. This is a perfect centerpiece for tables at your baby shower.

Here's another way to use that whale tub at a baby shower.

Fill it with presents that are individually wrapped. That can include diapers, shampoos, lotions, washcloths, etc. For an added effect, put some balloons into the tub too - they will look like floating bubbles! And fix a rubber ducky atop one of the balloons using ribbons - that customizes the tub for baby showers!

With a bit of creativity, you can get one to grace your baby shower!

Here's how. Get one of those tubs that look like a whale. Use it as a punch bowl. Fill it with clear punch, put in couple of small rubber duckies plus other baby 'floaters'. You have a cute baby shower decoration, a whale of a time drinking punch and of course, the tub makes a lovely present for the expectant mommy after the baby shower.

Want a simple way to make tables at baby showers look 'different' and more appealing?

Here it is - just place small boxes of varying heights on them. Then, get hold of receiving blankets or other similar baby stuff. Drape blankets over the boxes. This is visually appealing because of the multiple levels your table top presents. Simple, easy and quick idea for baby shower decorations!

By the way, don't forget to sprinkle confetti on tables at baby showers. You can get confetti that says 'It's a boy!' or 'It's a girl!'. If the baby's sex is unknown, just use both.

Baby shower cakes (also called diaper cakes) are essentially diapers arranged in multiple tiers to look like a cake, with many small baby products tucked into them, and beautifully wrapped in translucent packaging.

What products besides diapers go into baby shower cakes? Anything reasonably smallish - baby bottles, pacifiers, teething rings, booties, socks, bibs, receiving blankets...the list goes on.

They're very eye-catching gifts, just right for baby showers. Place one on a table - it makes a lovely centerpiece.

Here are more tricks I've used to decorate baby showers.

If you have multiple tables, get a few baby items like shampoo, lotions, bottles (filled with water), diaper packs, wipes, refill packs, baby formula packs, soft toys, etc and place them in the center of each table. Tie a bunch of balloons to them. Each table at the shower now has a 'color spot'.

If you have large baby shower gifts like strollers, cribs and so on, tie balloons to them to create a special look. Choose balloon colors according to the sex of the baby; if it's not known, use both pink and blue balloons.

It's easy to give a bright look to baby showers. Just let loose your imagination! Go for it.

For the next few posts, I'll focus on baby shower decorations. For no real reason, except that I enjoy doing decorations and creating lovely effects! Heck, that's a good enough reason, isn't it?

One of the simplest things you can do is to use balloons to create a party mood. This applies to baby showers as much as any other event. Because balloons make it feel like a party!

A basic use of balloons is to create 'color spots' around the room or area where you're holding the baby shower. Tie a bunch of helium balloons to an anchor like booties, cuddly bear, baby bottle filled with water, etc. All cute baby shower type items. Always use an odd number of balloons in a bunch. Choose colors in line with your party theme, if you're having one. Otherwise traditional pink or blue is fine.

Here's a money-saver tip - your local 99¢ store will usually have balloons at a much lower price than most party stores.

Do you enjoy baby showers as much as I do? If so, you'll find this blog a good read! Much as I love these wonderful parties, I find that many folks struggle with organizing a baby shower.

They just don't know where to start, what to take care of and end up feeling overwhelmed about the whole idea of hosting baby showers. There's so much to take care of - venue, food, baby shower decorations, sending invitations, ensuring you follow the right baby shower etiquette, and so on and on and on.

Well, it doesn't really have to be stressful. In fact, it can be one great experience.

I've hosted baby showers many times myself and have in turn been a guest of honor at one. So I've seen both sides of the coin, so to speak. And because I enjoy them I thought I'll share some of what I learnt from my experiences with baby showers. That way, others can perhaps find useful information for organizing showers. Which is why I created BabyShowerFun!
